At Equidae, we understand that the ownership of one horse or many represents a significant financial investment worth protecting.

We can provide tailored insurance coverages for unique situations.

Our Coverage Options Include:

Full Mortality Coverage

Provides death and theft coverage on a broad perils basis, including accident, injury, sickness and disease. Policies are written on an annual basis and the rates for this coverage are determined by a number of factors (breed, age, use, sex and value). The coverage territories include the United States and Canada.

We provide complimentary veterinarian certificates for horses valued over $100,000.

Major Medical Coverage

This is a form of health insurance on your horse and is purchased as an additional endorsement to the Full Mortality policy. The policy provides medical and surgical treatment or diagnostic testing to your horse by a qualified veterinarian as a result of accident, injury, sickness or disease. We offer coverage limits from $10,000 or $15,000.

Emergency Colic Surgery Coverage

Provides coverage up to $3,500 for emergency colic surgery on every qualifying horse that we insure and an additional premium does not apply.

Colic Treatment and Surgery Coverage

This colic option covers up to $10,000 in medical expenses due to colic or acute abdominal pain. The cost is $150 annually, per horse. A deductible of $250 will apply per claim. Covered medical expenses include medications, treatments or surgical procedures for the management of colic. Exclusions may apply. This endorsement is not available to animals under 30 days of age or animals over 20 years of age. Racing stock is eligible for this endorsement.

Please note, a 20% co-pay applies to all covered expenses.

Surgical Coverage

Provides coverage in the event your horse suffers an accident, sickness or disease that requires life-saving surgery. This coverage is often added to Full Mortality policies for horses that are no longer eligible for major medical coverage due to their age.

Medical Assistance

The medical assistance covers up to $7,500 in medical or surgical treatment or diagnostic testing to your horse by a qualified veterinarian as a result of accident, injury, lameness condition or lameness injury, or physical disability. The cost is $375 annually, per horse. A deductible of $500 will apply per claim.

Please note, a 20% co-pay applies to all covered expenses.

Loss of Use

Provides coverage in the event your horse becomes incapacitated due to a debilitating injury or disease that does not warrant euthanasia, but the animal can no longer be used for its intended use. This coverage must be applied for and an additional premium is required.

Stallion Permanent Disability

Provides coverage for a covered stallion that becomes incapable of stud services due to covered infertility, impotence, accident, injury, sickness or disease.

Prospective Foal Coverage

Provides coverage for unborn foals in utero and continues when the baby is foaled from 24 hours or up to 90 days on the ground. Rates are based on individual criteria and stud fee.

Air Transit Coverage

This endorsement covers the animal during air transit, usually from Europe to the United States. It is available to all horses over 30 days of age. Full Mortality is required.

Please note, this coverage is not available in all countries. For additional information, please contact us. Rates vary by location.

Short Term / Trial Term Coverage

Whether you are sending your horse to a potential buyer for a trial or you are about to take possession of horse on a trial period, it is strongly recommended both seller and prospective buyer discuss insurance expectations prior to the transaction. A Short-Term Horse Insurance policy can save an enormous amount of heartache and potential liability for both parties in the unfortunate event the horse becomes ill or sustains an injury during the trial period. Depending on the situation, often a Short-Term Horse Insurance premium purchased by the prospective buyer of the horse can be applied towards an annual policy once the sale is finalized after the trial period.

Please note, minimum premium of $200.
